Sensor technology can detect wildfire early

N5 Sensors has developed a multi-modal sensor system that can detect wildfire before smoke becomes obvious, giving first responders a much-needed edge.

Early detection is imperative in wildfire response, because a fire that was smoldering hours ago “could become a big, raging wildfire,”

Most wildfires are still observed by people seeing smoke and calling 911—which can lead to delayed response. In a simple way, you can describe this technology almost like how humans perceive any kind of danger, in that each system houses three sensors monitoring key environmental aspects— an infrared sensor, another for smoke and particle, and a third tracking gas and chemical changes.

Contactless Ticketing Smart Card Shipments Saw a Post-COVID Recovery of 6% in 2021

After a significant decrease in 2020, the worldwide shipments of contactless ticketing smart cards recovered 6% to reach 302 million in 2021, according to ABI Research.

While many countries are still in various states of reduced transit services, the chipset shortage will make its presence known in 2022, causing a shortfall in supply for lower ASP end markets and resulting in a drop in 2022 shipments to just under 290 million.

2021 resulted in low growth for the overall contactless ticketing market on a global scale. Overall, 2021 saw a total of 302 million micro and memory shipments, with continued migration from memory to microcontroller, but lower growth because of the continuing pandemic and many countries maintaining distancing measures. With most global transport networks running limited services, ridership was much lower than pre-pandemic levels.

It is unlikely that the global market for ticketing smart card shipments will recover in several years. This is not only due to the ongoing pandemic concerns in most countries, but also the chipset shortage, which is currently in its most critical year. The short supply of chips to cards will be felt more harshly in developing and emerging economies, as transit authorities struggle to stump up the higher ASP the contactless ticketing smart cards will now command. North America and Europe will experience lessened effects.

Wallet That Gives Full Protection From Theft & Deformation

Karben Wallet is a contemporary spin on the classic leather or nylon wallet. Karben Wallet was recently introduced by the team at YEHYEH Limited to protect wallets from theft and deformation.

The Karben Wallet is a wallet made of carbon fiber and aluminum. This material is a major selling factor because it outperforms leather, canvas, and polyester (to name a few).

RFID-blocking technology is the most important feature of the Karben Wallet. Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) stands for Radio Frequency Identification Devices. These can be found in passports, credit cards, and anything else that has a chip to help with transactions. Thieves can acquire access to personal information with a simple touch for people who are used to putting their wallets in their back pockets. RFID-blocking technology decreases the possibility of being spied on.

An NFC (near-field communication) sticker/chip is programmed inside the Karben Wallet. This feature can be thought of as an improved RFID that ensures easy data transfer. While access to the Karben App is deemed insignificant, it may be useful in some circumstances. The goal of the app, according to our editorial team, is to allow people to share their information with only a tap. To ensure a quick transfer, the receiver must have an NFC-enabled device (or access to the necessary QR code if they don't), and the distance between the two parties must be within a 4cm radius.

Real-time ultrafast humidity sensing optical sensor

A POSTECH research team led by Professor Junsuk Rho (Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering) has developed an ultrafast humidity-responsive colorimetric sensor.

Sensors using light are already being used in our daily lives, for electrocardiogram and air quality measurement. These sensors use light to detect changes in their surroundings and convert them into digital signals.

The research team fabricated a colorimetric sensor that consists of metal-hydrogel-metal structure using a disordered metal nanoparticle layer -- a chitosan hydrogel -- and a reflecting substrate. When the external humidity changes, the resonant frequency of the sensor changes due to the characteristic of the chitosan hydrogel that swells under wet state and contracts under dry state repeatedly.

This new sensor boasts an ultrafast speed that is 10,000 times faster than the conventional Fabry-Perot interferometer based optical sensors. This fast reaction speed is thanks to the porous space between the nanoparticles that make up the sensor, much like the shell of the beetle that changes colors depending on the humidity.

RFID Blood Refrigerator And Freezer Market Size to Grow by USD 12.07 billion

One of the primary growth drivers for the RFID blood refrigerator and freezer market is the high demand for blood and blood components, according to a senior analyst at Technavio. The market size is expected to grow by USD 12.07 bn from 2021 to 2026.

The high demand for blood and blood components is driving the growth of the global RFID blood refrigerator and freezer market. Various diseases and blood disorders, including thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, leukemia, and cancer, as well as blood loss due to surgery, require blood for treatment.

Blood and its components are required when the body fails to produce enough blood components to meet the requirements. Furthermore, the availability of freezer drawer racks made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, with handles and identification cardholders, helps in the storage of a large number of blood tubes conveniently and facilitates tube retrieval without removing the whole rack from the freezer. Such advantages of RFID blood refrigerators and freezers will increase their adoption during the forecast period.
