SmartMetric sees $5.765 Trillion in Global Biometric Payments by 2026

SmartMetric reveals that global biometric payments to the value of $5.765 trillion will be made annually by 2026.1 The research report goes on to say 'biometrics is now a must-have technology to secure payments across all payment channels.'

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought around serious reservations about using shared PIN-PADs and POS devices in physical locations which has resulted in an acceleration of biometric payment cards even more attractive to consumers.

The impact on touchless contactless payments is obvious. With a biometric contactless card the card user is affirmatively 100 percent identified by their fingerprint biometrics. A non-biometric contactless credit or debit card is inherently insecure. Reports and cases of card data theft from RFID data stealing from the card has made banks restrict the dollar amount per card transaction in order to mitigate the contactless card risk. With a biometric activated card like that made by SmartMetric, the risk of contactless cards for banks is greatly reduced as the card can only work following an on-card biometric fingerprint match.

The SmartMetric biometric credit/debit card has engineered into the card three power sources. A miniature hybrid solid state battery, a power feed from contact readers when the card is inserted into a contact store reader or a regular ATM and the contactless energy harvesting from contactless card readers.

DiMe Releases Toolkits to Improve Sensor Data Integration

These toolkits will help realize the promise of sensor generated data to drive better decisions, faster, to improve healthcare delivery and research.

The surge of data from sensor technologies is far outpacing the industry's ability to collect, store, analyze, protect, and use this data effectively for patient care and research. The number of US patients using remote patient monitoring devices is expected to surpass 70 million by 2025.

Between 2022 and 2028, the global market for wearable technology is expected to grow around 18.5 percent, reaching $380.5 billion. The number of unique digital endpoints being used in industry sponsored trials of new medical products increased by over 950% between October 2019 and May 2022. The number of sponsors using these products in medical product development increased from 12 to 96 in the same timespan. And while the ability to discern high-quality sensor data suitable for clinical decision making is increasing rapidly, the ability to access these data is constrained by a current dependence on individual point solutions.

Carrier Dual Delivers Shared RAIN RFID and NFC Memory

Confidex has released a new label with shared memory for RAIN RFID (UHF) and NFC interface. Unlike legacy dual frequency tags, this latest member of the Carrier product family for washable returnable transit items (RTIs), can store critical data and transmit that data via both RAIN RFID and NFC interfaces on a single IC.

With this label - leveraging the EM Microelectronic em|echo-V (EM4425) IC - users can access the same unique information about a product or asset via either a standard RAIN RFID or with an NFC reader or mobile phone. The RAIN RFID interface builds on a widely installed existing infrastructure, adding NFC on top to enable a seamless consumer interaction and remove any barrier to the end user reading the tag.

The Carrier Dual label boasts the same robust structure - proven in the field - provided by Confidex’s other Carrier family products. Its compact size makes it perfect for reusable pallets or consumer goods packaging, at 70 by 36 millimeters (2.75 by 1.41 inches).

This unique label is optimal for numerous applications in the industrial sector from reusable transport items to other industrial assets that require a long-term label solution. New Trend Of QR Codes In The Packaging Industry

QR codes may have failed on their first try 10 years ago, but this time they are a marketing team’s hottest asset. Pinnacle Packaging President Nicole DeJoris says you can expect to see them everywhere, including on packaging supplies from shipping boxes to tape and inserts.

Packaging is jumping on the QR code bandwagon, especially because of COVID, DeJoris said. It’s a simple way for consumers or anyone receiving a package to scan the QR code and get more information on the product or the company itself.

Not only are these quirky pixelated squares making marketers’ dreams come true, but more importantly, they are giving buyers a 10 times experience thanks to how easy and fast they are to use. All it takes is a quick scan with a phone’s camera, touching the link that pops up, and a buyer or prospect is immediately taken to a URL that is directly related to something they have purchased or are interested in.

QR codes come in two different types, static and dynamic. Static codes take a user to a location that provides information that will not change, while the dynamic version is editable, making it much more versatile since the information that is pulled up when scanned can be changed.

The dynamic QR code is especially useful for placement on shipping boxes and water-activated tape because they are purchased in large quantities, and the information that was important when the boxes were first printed with the code could change over time.
