LumApps Introduces QR Code Login Feature for Mobile App

LumApps, an employee experience platform, announced a new QR code login feature designed to accelerate adoption among frontline and deskless workers. Managers and team leaders ('empowered employees') can now create a personalized, time-limited QR Code that gives colleagues instant, authenticated access to their LumApps account via mobile – without having to enter an email or password.

Emergence estimates that 80% of the global workforce performs deskless work daily. Many of these workers don't have company-issued computers to get updates on corporate news and culture, interact with colleagues, or access key information, resources, or apps. This often leads to a feeling of exclusion or isolation. A recent survey by Deloitte found more than a third (36%) of frontline employees lacked a sense of belonging.

The secure QR Code feature addresses this challenge by facilitating the adoption of LumApps' mobile app, allowing employees to communicate, collaborate and connect with company information and peers across the enterprise. This enables 'empowered employees' (e.g., a retail store manager, manufacturing plant manager, etc.) to delegate authenticated access by creating a personalized and time-limited QR Code to share directly with named colleagues. The invitees then scan the private code on their mobile phone, which automatically downloads the app, confirms their identity, and syncs to each individual's unique profile.

SimplyRFID Unveils RFID Inventory for Shopify at the NRF Big Show

SimplyRFID's Wave 3.3.9 releases on January 20, 2023 and can be previewed at the NRF Big Show this week (Jan. 15-17) at booth #4246 in the Javits Center, NY. The most significant new Wave feature is direct data exchange with Shopify.

Quarterly inventories are obsolete. Today's inventories are weekly - even daily - and take minutes with SimplyRFiD's Wave RAIN RFID system.

Before RFID, the only choice was manual barcode counts that took a team hours and yet only 75-85% accurate (Source: Gartner Contemporary Retail Report, November 2021). Still, when RFID became viable around 2008, the value of RFID wasn't there because the concept of how to use a global accurate inventory didn't exist. As omnichannel and e-commerce became a driving requirement for retailers, connecting inventory at the store to the web changed the value proposition for RFID.

After a years of study at retailers, SimplyRFiD developed the business processes and workflows to help retailers get up and running with minimal effort and high confidence of a successful, fast rollout and built it into their Wave App.

SimplyRFiD will be at the NRF Big Show in booth #4246 from Jan. 15-17, 2023. On hand to discuss how SimplyRFID can help retailers improve their business processes with RFID will be Carl Brown, President, Eric Richmond, Vice President of Delivery, and Will Montalbo, Vice President of Marketing.

TfL celebrates a decade of contactless payment on London’s buses

Transport for London (TfL) is marking ten years since contactless payment using a bank card was first introduced as a new way to pay on London's buses, making it easier and more convenient for millions of customers.

The system, which evolved from TfL's successful Oyster card system and was developed in partnership with the wider banking industry, allows customers to benefit from the ease and convenience of using their contactless bank card or mobile device, rather than having to pre-purchase anything. The system also allows for daily and weekly (Monday to Sunday) capping, meaning customers never pay more than the equivalent 7 Day ticket.

On its first day, only 2,061 customers made 2,586 bus journeys using contactless bank cards, although this was impressive given how few of the cards were in general circulation. Since then, the popularity of contactless, both as a means to pay generally and also as a method of paying for travel, has risen exponentially. A year after launching, TfL had seen more than 6.5 million journeys (around 33,000 bus journeys a day) being made using a contactless payment card and by December 2017, more than half a billion journeys had been made (with TfL seeing around 900,000 bus journeys a day made using contactless.)

Following the pandemic, bus ridership is now at around 80-85 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, with more than five million journeys a day being made - with around 1.7 million of those made using pay as you go with contactless. Around 70 per cent of all pay as you go journeys on buses are made using contactless payment cards or mobile devices - with the most popular bus route for contactless use the route 149 from London Bridge to Edmonton with around 100,000 contactless taps a week.

Powercast & KYOCERA AVX Team on Battery-Free Solutions

Powercast Corporation and KYOCERA AVX are teaming to create sustainable, battery-free solutions capable of harvesting power from industry-standard RFID readers to power ESLs (electronic shelf labels), RFID Sensor Tags and other battery-free IoT devices. Both Powercast (booth #52311) and KYOCERA AVX (booth #11123) will demonstrate the solutions at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, January 5 – 8, 2023.

A tiny Powercast PCC110 Powerharvester receiver chip embedded in electronic devices harvests RF out of the air when it comes within range of a UHF RFID reader, converts that RF to DC (direct current), and then stores it in a KYOCERA AVX supercapacitor for discharge when needed. This battery-independent power storage eliminates battery replacement maintenance and keeps disposable batteries out of landfills.

'The ability to power green, sustainable devices solely from the RF harvested from the RFID readers deployed today throughout many industries can solve the main problem IoT deployments face - battery replacement,' said Charles Greene, PhD, COO and CTO of Powercast.
