RTA smart fare cards on the way

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority expects to offer so-called smart-fare cards within a year — a decade later than the agency originally planned. The cards — which resemble credit cards and allow riders to board buses and trains with a simple swipe — had been anticipated by 2010 as part of two contracts signed in 2007 to upgrade the agency’s fare-collections system.
