Samsung Electronics has partnered with Hyundai Motor and Kia to integrate the SmartThings IoT platform with their software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This collaboration will allow vehicles to be added to the SmartThings ecosystem, enabling drivers to control air conditioners, air purifiers, and other connected devices while on the road.
The integration will focus on incorporating SmartThings software into Hyundai and Kia’s next-generation infotainment systems. One of the initial features will be a global location solution for vehicles and smart keys, based on the SmartThings Find platform. This platform uses a crowdsourced network of Samsung Galaxy devices with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to report their location.
With the SmartThings Find service, users can locate their vehicles using nearby Galaxy smartphones, even without a 4G or 5G cellular network connection. This makes it easier for drivers to track down their cars if they are lost or stolen.
Chang Song, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) Division, stated, “Our goal is to enrich Hyundai Motor and Kia customers’ mobility experience by offering personalized services that extend beyond transportation, seamlessly integrating vehicles with smartphones.
