The massive UDP protocol-based attack occurred on October 29, 2024, targeting an unnamed internet service provider (ISP) in Eastern Asia. The attack originated from a Mirai-variant botnet.
According to a report by Cloudflare’s Omer Yoachimik and Jorge Pacheco, the attack lasted just 80 seconds but involved over 13,000 compromised IoT devices. On average, 5,500 unique source IP addresses were active per second, each contributing approximately 1 Gbps of traffic.
This unprecedented event highlights the growing scale and sophistication of botnet-driven DDoS attacks in the digital landscape.
