GE Appliances Recognized for IoT Security in 2022 CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards Program
GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, has been recognized with the “IoT Device Security Solution of the Year” award in the sixth annual CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards program.
Earlier this year, GE Appliances added Bluetooth connectivity to many smart appliances allowing for easier customer set-up and enhanced security protocols. Because Bluetooth requires that the user is physically present during the appliance's commissioning process, security is enhanced during setup.
Additionally, GE Appliances partnered with the Amazon Voice Security Certification Group to enable its innovative, new washers and dryers, which allow users to set the washer and dryer to the optimal setting for thousands of utterance combinations for fabrics and stains through voice, to work with Amazon Alexa™. This new functionality provides convenience for owners who may have visual impairments - allowing them to do more and have peace of mind knowing their interaction with appliances is secure.
Finally, GE Appliances worked diligently to maintain the UL Gold verification rating three years running for over 650 connected appliances and accessories powered by SmartHQ. As the first household appliance brand to earn this rating, GE Appliances’ products were recognized because they are secure by design, security is ingrained into both the culture and product development and security controls are implemented in multiple layers throughout the product's IoT ecosystem for data protection at rest and in transit. Most recently, GE Appliances earned the UL Gold rating for its new commercial washer and dryer business, so its owners can feel confident that they can manage their fleet securely.
“We are honored to receive this incredibly important recognition from CyberSecurity Breakthrough for the second time. Our number one priority is to ensure that we protect consumer data and appliances, which is evidenced by our continued innovations, partnerships and rigorous security standards,” said Shawn Stover, VP of SmartHome Solutions for GE Appliances. “The possibilities for IoT and appliances are endless. We will continue to develop products that enable peace of mind and security for our customers while enhancing the SmartHQ experience.”
The mission of the CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize the innovation, hard work and success in a range of information security categories, including Cloud Security, Threat Detection, Risk Management, Fraud Prevention, Mobile Security, Email Security and many more. This year’s program attracted more than 4,100 nominations from over 20 different countries throughout the world.
