Perry Ellis Boosts Inventory Accuracy with RFID

Perry Ellis International, a men’s clothing company, recently implemented a radio frequency identification (RFID) technology-based solution in 40 of its stores across the United States.

The goal of this implementation is to improve inventory visibility, on-shelf availability, and faster replenishment of sold goods. The solution includes handheld UHF RFID readers for store employees to scan merchandise tags and fixed readers at the point of sale (POS). The technology and software integration is provided by Mojix, a California-based technology firm.

After conducting extensive research and a small-scale rollout of fixed, real-time-locating RFID infrastructure, Perry Ellis decided to deploy the passive RFID solution in most of its stores. This decision was made after evaluating the cost versus benefits of overhead antennas that provided real-time location data but were too expensive to deploy at every site, according to Sandeep Baghel, the company’s VP of information systems.

Baghel states that the company has been on a decade-long journey with RFID technology, conducting proofs-of-concept and testing RFID tags on products and reader hardware to determine how it could improve inventory visibility.
