Ski jumpers to be required to have NFC jump suits
The International Ski Federation (FIS) is introducing NFC chips to competition-level ski jump suits to ensure athletes adhere to regulations. Starting next winter, competitors will be limited to using one suit per competition, with a maximum of 10 suits allowed per season if they participate in all championships12.
This decision aims to create a level playing field, as athletes from smaller nations often have fewer suits due to budget constraints. Previously, competitors could switch between multiple suits throughout the season2.
The NFC chips will be glued to various parts of each suit, allowing for quick and precise measurements during competitions2.
FIS race director Sandro Pertile emphasized that this move is about equality of opportunity, cost reduction, and sustainability1.
