FiRa adds support for hands-free mobile payments, transit ticketing and access control applications

The FiRa Consortium has released an updated version of its technical specifications for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, enhancing support for advanced UWB applications that require seamless integration of FiRa features. These updates enable deterministic performance for use cases such as mobile payments and transit ticketing.

According to the standards organization, the updated Core 3.0 Specifications enhance UWB capabilities by enabling seamless interoperability and opening up new opportunities for precise, secure ranging and positioning across a variety of applications.

Key updates include support for the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) Digital Key UWB certification, dedicated data transfer capabilities, and Hybrid UWB Scheduling (HUS), which facilitates payment-related transactions.
