Ticketmaster and Live Nation face copyright lawsuit

Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment are facing a new legal challenge over their mobile-ticketing technology.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by EChanging Barcode LLC, alleges that Ticketmaster’s “SafeTix” platform infringes on U.S. Patent No. 9,047,715 — which covers a system of rotating encrypted barcodes designed to stop screenshot-based fraud.

EChanging claims that this patent, owned in part by inventor Alan Amron, is being used without permission. The same patent is also being asserted in a separate legal action against Major League Baseball Digital Media LLC (MLB’s digital arm) in the same court.

This latest case revives previous infringement claims that were withdrawn last year.

Moreover, this comes amid broader regulatory and legal scrutiny of Live Nation and Ticketmaster — including antitrust investigations and actions over their dominance in live-event ticketing and resale practices.
