Apple unveils Tap to Present ID API
Apple has expanded on its Tap to Pay on iPhone softPOS technology to launch a new Tap to Present ID API. This will allow both government agencies and private companies to use a standard iPhone to verify a customer or service user’s age, identity, address, and/or driver’s license status.
Tap to Present ID will be introduced with iOS 17 and will allow developers to incorporate mobile document reading into their apps with just a few lines of code.
Wallet and Apple Pay engineer Jonathan Downing explained this during a joint presentation with fellow engineer David Stockley at WWDC23 on What’s New in Wallet and Apple Pay.
