Google Wallet supports adding any barcode or QR code manually
Google has announced a major expansion of its Wallet service that will allow users to manually add any barcode or QR code. The expansion will also include support for US driver’s licenses in Google Wallet, starting with Maryland and expanding to Arizona, Colorado, and Georgia in the coming months.
Google says that these digital IDs will eventually be usable in some online applications, such as booking a car with Turo. Additionally, Google Wallet will add support for corporate badges later this year and support for Deutschlandticket local public transport in Germany.
One of the most exciting new features is the ability to manually save barcodes and QR codes to your cards. Users can simply import the code as an image with a description and any relevant information to create a digital copy that lives alongside their other cards and passes. Examples include gym memberships, transit tickets, parking passes, e-commerce returns, and more. The exact timeline for this feature is not yet known.
