China to launch revamped ‘smart’ green card
According to the National Immigration Administration, China will launch a new version of its smart card for foreign permanent residents.
The card will make it more convenient for them to buy train and airline tickets and make online orders.
The first smart cards were issued in 2017, and the new version will be launched on December 1, 2023. The card is accepted as legal proof of identity and can be used by itself to book hotels and tickets without needing a passport.
The administration said it would work with different departments to expand the areas where the card could be used.
