New RFID Tag Inspector App Launched to Boost Mobile RFID TestingRFI

A global provider of RFID solutions has unveiled a new mobile application called Tag Inspector, designed to work with smartphones that have built-in RFID readers. The tool aims to make it easier for professionals to scan, validate and analyse RFID tags directly from their mobile devices — a significant step forward in how RFID data is accessed and interpreted in technical and research environments.

Developed by Clustag, Tag Inspector is being positioned as the first open application tailored specifically for smartphones with integrated RFID capability. It is meant to support tasks such as rapid tag validation, performance comparison and technical demonstration across different environments — especially useful for research and development teams, IT departments and test labs.

The company is showcasing Tag Inspector at EuroShop Düsseldorf at the Zebra Technologies exhibition stand, highlighting how the growing use of RAIN RFID is driving innovation in retail and logistics. The app’s intuitive interface is designed to overcome limitations of traditional native RFID software, making it easier to identify and analyse tags from multiple manufacturers.

Initially, Tag Inspector supports devices such as the EM45-RFID and TC5e-RFID models from Zebra Technologies, but Clustag plans to extend compatibility to additional devices over time. This expansion could allow companies to adopt the application without needing to replace existing hardware.

Clustag says the goal is to help retailers and logistics operations objectively evaluate tag performance, benchmark different suppliers and make data-driven decisions — all from a smartphone platform that’s both familiar and efficient for field use.
