Apple rolling out new AirTag 2 firmware update

Apple has started rolling out a new firmware update for the second-generation Apple AirTag 2, according to a report from  9to5Mac. The update moves the tracker from firmware version 3.0.45 to version 3.0.49.

This is the second firmware update released for the AirTag 2 since the device launched earlier in 2026. Apple previously pushed version 3.0.45 in March, which included improvements to the unwanted-tracking alert sound and general bug fixes.

As of now, Apple hasn’t shared official release notes for version 3.0.49, so it’s unclear exactly what changes are included. The update is expected to contain under-the-hood fixes, performance tweaks, or reliability improvements.

Like earlier AirTag updates, the firmware installs automatically when the tracker is near a paired iPhone. There’s no manual update button. Users can check their firmware version in the Find My app by selecting the AirTag and tapping its name to reveal the serial number and firmware details.
