Bank robber arrested after GPS tracker leads police to his location

A 41-year-old convicted felon is facing new criminal charges after allegedly robbing a downtown Portland bank and being apprehended less than an hour later.

According to court records, Boldragon Plexico entered the Trailhead Credit Union branch on Northwest Second Avenue shortly after 2 p.m. on June 17 and demanded cash from a teller. Prosecutors say he threatened harm if his demands were not met and instructed the employee to hand over bills in denominations of $20 or higher.

Investigators allege Plexico left the bank with more than $4,000. Unbeknownst to him, a GPS tracking device had been concealed among the cash by a teller before he fled.

Police officers, assisted by location updates from the tracking device, searched the surrounding area. Around 2:45 p.m., officers located a man matching the suspect’s description in a parking lot near Southeast Water Avenue. The individual was reportedly found in the area indicated by the GPS signal.

Authorities said Plexico cooperated with officers during the encounter. A search of his backpack allegedly uncovered the stolen money, leading to his arrest.

Court records show Plexico has a prior felony conviction in Nevada. He pleaded guilty in 2023 to battery with intent to commit burglary and was released on parole earlier this year, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
