Google Find Hub Tags Gain NFC Support

Google is making its Find Hub network more useful with two new features for compatible tracking tags.

According to the latest Google Play services update, version 26.39 introduces NFC support for Find Hub tags, making it easier to access information about a tag or identify a lost tracker.

With NFC support, users can simply tap a compatible Find Hub tag with their phone to access the tag’s details and settings or identify a lost tag.

Until now, identifying a lost tracker has generally required putting the device into a dedicated identification mode, with the exact process varying between manufacturers. NFC could make that process considerably simpler: just tap the tag with an NFC-enabled phone.

However, NFC is not yet a standard feature across Find Hub trackers. Google’s upcoming Pixel Tag, for example, does not include NFC. Xiaomi’s Tag, which launched earlier this year, does have NFC, although its implementation appears to be limited to Apple’s Find My network.

The addition of NFC support to Google Play services suggests that more Find Hub-compatible trackers with NFC could be on the way.
