Avery Dennison Launches the Industry’s First APR-Recognized Recyclable RFID Label for PET Packaging
Avery Dennison has introduced the first-ever RFID label to earn Design for Recyclability (DfR) recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), marking a major advance in sustainable smart packaging.
Using its proprietary CleanFlake adhesive technology, Avery Dennison created an RFID label that detaches cleanly from PET containers during mechanical recycling, dramatically reducing contamination and enhancing the quality of recyclate.
PET is one of the most globally recycled plastics—found in bottles, food packaging, cosmetics, and household goods—so minimising contamination from labels is vital for improving recycling efficiency at scale.
With nearly 96% of the top 50 consumer goods brands aiming to meet recyclability and waste-reduction targets, Avery Dennison’s new RFID label offers a powerful solution to help brands achieve these ESG goals.
Avery Dennison plans to roll out this APR-recognized RFID label later this year, initially in North America, with ongoing efforts to secure similar certifications across global PET recycling systems.
