Sensormatic Introduces Sewn-In RFID Tags for Apparel Authentication

Sensormatic Solutions, a subsidiary of Johnson Controls, has announced the global launch of two new discreet radio-frequency identification (RFID) tagging solutions—the RFID Seam Tag and the RFID Brand Label—aimed at redefining loss prevention and inventory management for apparel brands.

Designed to be sewn directly into garments and accessories during manufacturing, the new tags provide permanent, tamper-resistant tracking throughout an item's lifecycle without compromising comfort, fit, or aesthetics.

Unlike traditional hard security tags—which are attached in-store and removed at checkout—Sensormatic’s new offerings are applied at the source of manufacture. Embedded seamlessly into a garment’s seams or brand labels, the tags act as a durable "digital fingerprint".

Because the tags cannot be removed without damaging the product, they offer a powerful countermeasure against organized retail crime (ORC), shoplifting, and fraudulent returns.
“These tagging solutions turn inventory intelligence into comprehensive brand protection,” said Tony D’Onofrio, President of Sensormatic Solutions. “They represent the next era of omnichannel retail intelligence tools, pairing full product visibility and protection in a discreet package. They’re designed to be permanent and tamper-resistant, providing retailers with information needed to address total retail loss from the source through their supply chains and sales floors, and beyond.”
