Visa reports 200% growth in Tap to Phone softPOS adoption

Visa’s Tap to Phone softPOS solution has seen a 200% year-on-year increase globally, with adoption surging by 234% in key markets such as the US, UK, and Brazil. According to Visa, “millions of sellers of all sizes” now use the technology, with nearly 30% being new small businesses.

SoftPOS technology allows businesses to accept contactless payments using a standard NFC-enabled smartphone—eliminating the need for additional hardware.

Visa highlights how this innovation is “democratizing access to commerce tools,” enabling microsellers and small businesses worldwide to start accepting contactless payments effortlessly.

“Tap to Phone is a tech equalizer for businesses,” says Mark Nelsen, Visa’s global head of consumer products. “Whether you’re shopping at a major retailer or a local farmer’s market, the same technology is making payments seamless and accessible.”

With consumer preference for contactless payments growing, Visa continues to expand its tap capabilities to enhance payment experiences for both businesses and customers.
