Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 may drop built-in attachment loop

Samsung appears to be giving its Galaxy SmartTag 3 a new design that removes the built-in attachment loop, according to leaked images and details about the upcoming tracker. The change would bring the device closer to Apple’s AirTag, which also requires an additional accessory for attaching it to a keyring or other loop.

Leaked images suggest the Galaxy SmartTag 3 will have a more compact, rounded-square design. Previous generations of Samsung’s tracker featured an integrated opening that allowed users to attach the device directly to a keyring, bag or other item.

Several competing trackers also include built-in attachment points. Apple’s AirTag, Motorola’s Moto Tag and Google’s upcoming Pixel Tag do not, meaning users need an additional accessory to attach them to a keyring.

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 is expected to support Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband (UWB). The tracker is also reportedly rated IP67 for dust and water resistance and could offer around 500 days of battery life. Samsung is expected to continue using its own tracking network, rather than Google’s Find Hub network.

According to another leak, the SmartTag 3 could retain the current price of around $39.99. A four-pack may cost around $139.99, up from $129.99 for the current four-pack.

Samsung has not yet announced an official launch date for the Galaxy SmartTag 3.
